Are you done with Christmas songs like ‘Rudolph the red nose reindeer’ or ‘All I want for Christmas is you’? Have you heard ‘Flappie’ too many times on the radio? In other words, do you want to hear something refreshing with the holidays? But you don’t know what to choose? In that case Sara Groves is the answer to your questions.
If you’re looking for an album which contains a lot of ‘explosive’ music like Mariah Careys Christmas album, than you won’t be satisfied with Sara Groves. But if you’re looking for an album which isn’t that explosive but also not soporific, than you should really listen to ‘O holy night’.
You can easily listen all day long to ‘O holy night’. You won’t get bored. In my opinion it’s a risk to make an album with famous Christmas carols. Most of the times I’m not impressed when Christmas carols are sung over and over again by different singers. It can be a disaster, but it can also be beautiful.
In this case, it’s really beautiful. Sara Groves sings a few well-known Christmas carols on her album, but it’s really renewing. The songs sound as if they’re completely different from the original ones.
The album also contains new songs. All of the songs are in Sara Groves’ own style of music. They’re warm, intimate and they have impressive lyrics. I’ve only got one word for this album: Wow!
This album gets 4 out of 5 stars
