Who would have thought 10 years ago that gospel hip hop would be as good or even better than secular hiphop. A decade ago the beats in gospel hip hop were lame and outdated. You couldn't even call it rap or hip hop. That's all in the past now. This year several christian artists released a great hip hop album. The Ambassador, DJ morph, Trip Lee, Ton3x and some others dropped albums that were groundbreaking and measured up to the stuff we hear in the billboard charts. Those albums were great, but this album is one of the or the best gospel hip hop album made up to now. Lecrae already was one my favorite gospelrappers, but I did not expect this. On Itunes an atheist gave this album 4 or 5 stars.
The album Rebel begins with the intro track Rebel. The word Rebel has a negative meaning, but Lecrae makes everything clear in the intro.He says that every ones drinking, smokin and having sex out of wedlock. He says that Jezus also was a rebel when He was here on earth. He did not live according to the rules of his time. He was different. Lecrae says that we should not conform to the ways of this world, but we should renew our thinking according to Romans 12. The intro is cool and I love the sample in the hook of the man telling us a story. In Don’t Waste Your Life with British Dwayne Tryumf and Cam tell us that we should not waste our lives. If we do not live our life for christ our life is in vain. He quotes Paul and also aks us to read Luc. Identity is produced by G-Styles. This song features J.R. and Da T.R.U.T.H.. It's about our identity in Christ. Our identity is not about our clothes, shoes, car we drive or the house we live in. Indwelling Sin is one of the best songs of the album. Lecrae is having a conversation with his old self. He talks about the things he use to do and his struggles. The conversation with his old nature is fascinating to listen to. Desperate tells the story of someone who has sinned and feels an overwhelming shame. He tries to redeem hisself, but forgets that Jesus is the only Redeemer who really washes away our sin. Got Paper is about having paper, but that it's worthless if you don't have Jesus in your life. You have to listen to this dics lots of times before you discover all the treasures that are on it. Rebel has 15 tracks that will relate to christians and none christians because of the way Lecrae spits every bar perfectly and the great production. . this is the bible in wrapping paper of this time. Unwrap this present by pressing play and enjoy the Holy Word and hip hop how it should be!
